indeed. not me, but some local dudes who skate better than i do and make money doing it. i would like to point out that i have been talking about building a miniramp on a pontoon for a while, so they may have stolen my idea. look here and here.

so,
i was skating the edina park the other week, and i had a knee pad slip. no serious damage, but i took a good look at the old rectors, and decided it was time for an upgrade. i started thinking about knee pads, and got to wondering if they still made those sweet cheetah pads that salba used to wear. sure enough, pro-designed is still around, and based in houston. i put in my order for the cheetah print pads, so i'll skate just like salba, but i screwed up the address. ended up calling the factory, and speaking with bill walker. very nice guy, has been making the pads since '85. we got to talking about random shit, how flat texas is, the new park that was just built in downtown houston... "yeah, i was talking to one of my riders yesterday, he said it was a lot of fun... kevin stabb, you know him? but yeah, he recommends it..." which i thought was pretty cool.
long story short, if you are in the market for new pads, call bill, and buy them from a really cool, skater owned company that has been around for a really really long time.

skateboarding as an art form and describes skateboarding's relationship
with public space and the public in a very positive and interesting way.
more recommended viewing regarding motorcycles, though it can easily be applied to skating. if you don't understand the relation, this should help.
speaking of, luke is seriously considering doing the wild ride 2008. any readers for whom this is a possibility are strongly encouraged to contact him to see if we can make this happen.
either way, it's getting warmer out, the snow is melting, and the season to ride (2 or 4 wheels, rubber or urethane) is upon us.

i would like to issue congratulations to all mentors who had their family size increase over the weekend. i'm sure ella and dottie will make fine additions to our loosely based organization. congrats also go out to brian and shanna for spawning an offspring last weekend as well. i still feel that babies are such odd little creatures.
i skated the new burnsville 3rd lair this week... the mini ramp is quite sweet, though the street course confuses and angers me. it appears as though it was designed strictly for small children on k-mart boards or hardcore handrail junkies, but leaves out anyone in between. it most definitely does not appeal to an old man like me. hopefully they will make the minor modifications necessary to give it some flow.
it was 4 degrees F on my way to work this morning. we're now into my least favorite part of the year... the long, harsh midwinter stretch that seems to go on forever and freezes the fun out of outdoor activities.
